Back to the coast
For the ride from outback Alice Springs to Adelaide we choose to be chaufeured around for a change. So we hopped on the OZ Experience bus for a 4 day trip via Coober Pedy and "The Grampians" to Adelaide. Coober Pedy was cool. Why? Because it's build under ground. Coober Pedy means "white mans hole in the ground" in Aboriginal language and it's build that way because of the abnormal temperature. During day it can be over 45C but under the ground it stays cool. So it's the cheapest Airco. CP is the opal capital of the world and everybody can buy a small piece of land and start digging. So if you're not lucky with the opal you will have a big house. We stayed the night in a former mine changed into a hostel so we could look for opal from our bed (just bang the wall).
After 2 days on the bus we needed a break so when we reached the Flinders Ranges National Park we got off for a few days of camping and hiking. So here we were in a place full of nature (Emu were camping just next to us) but with no public transport, what we didn't find important at first - mistake! Because when we were tired of walking, admiring Wilpena Pound (a few hills standing in a circle), camping, watching kangeroos and all the nature (by the way it was bloody cold at night) we wanted Oz Experience to pick us up again but there was no place for us on the bus. We were convicted to stay there for three more days. What? No way! It was nice there but in our opinions it was enough so what options did we have? None - except of hitchhiking of course. But then as a mirracle we got an offer from a receptionist who was just leaving to Adelaide with her car the same night. Yuppiii. Are we lucky or what? So we arrived to Adelaide five hours later and all the way cost us just a dinner for the driver.
In Adealaide we went out with Mariam who showed us the city and told us all about it. Thanks again, Mariam, we really enjoyed it.
After staying in a big city we felt like to leave for nature again. And what is better for this feeling than Kangeroo Island? The piece of land full of animals - so we were told. Do you want to know if it was so? Just read our next story.
with love
